The Best Superfoods to Add to Your Grocery List

Well friends, it has been a year! While staying healthy has been on the forefront of most everyone’s mind, it is actually the correlation between your mind + tummy that gives you a strong immune system. Did you know that 85% of your immune system resides in your tummy?! Furthermore, stress, fear and anxiety attribute to 90% of illness and disease—as these emotions release cortisol—which destroys healthy gut biome (your immune system). That’s why when I’m feeling stressed, I make sure to add the best superfoods I can find to my diet.

After 10 years of working to overcome multiple autoimmune disorders (in both myself and some of our kiddos), I have learned a lot about what it truly means to care for the immune system and live healthily. I love sharing what I’ve learned & all about the foods that help rebuild a healthy tummy! Here are some of my favorite superfoods you will want to add to your 2021 grocery list!

The Best Superfoods to Add to Your Grocery List

Pomegranate Seeds

This superfood is not only beautiful & DELISH, but they are so good for your tummy! They are rich in fiber, antioxidants and fatty acids. They also help with inflammation and digestion. Also, these bursting beauties contain magnesium (helps with detoxification) and vitamin e (anti-aging). In our kitchen, we love to eat pomegranate seeds plain or toss them on fresh salads.

Citrus Fruits

Not only will citrus fruits throw a party for your senses, they will liven things up in your tummy! Citrus flavonoids have the ability to modulate gut bacteria (microbiome) composition and are extremely beneficial to tummy barrier function. Also, citrus flavonoids help with inflammation (from stress and poor diet). In our kitchen, we do not reach for processed snacks, instead, we grab an orange—or two or three.

Cilantro

Do you know, my friend cilantro? If not, I have to introduce you! Cilantro is AMAZING for your tummy in so many ways. First, it stimulates digestive enzymes—helping you absorb the good stuff you eat. It also stops bloating, indigestion & stomach cramping. Furthermore, it is a natural detoxifier and pulls heavy metals from the body. There are so many ways to add cilantro to your your diet. In our kitchen, we make sure to throw it on tacos, yummy bowls (I’ll get to that next), salads and even in fruit smoothies!

Quinoa

When you are struggling with tummy issues, grains can definitely add fuel to the fire—especially gluten. Overall, during a tummy reset, it is best to avoid or limit grain intake. In our kitchen, we cook up organic, white quinoa for those filling comfort food recipes that usually call for grains. What’s more, quinoa contains special prebiotics that help good tummy bacteria thrive!

Here is a superfood recipe my family loves:

Yummy Superfood Taco Bowl

Gather It:

  • 1 lb. Organic, grass fed ground beef
  • 1 pkg. Organic taco seasoning
  • 2. cups Organic, white quinoa
  • I yellow onion
  • 1 large tomato
  • 2 cups cilantro
  • Optional: Organic sour cream & Cotija Mexican Cheese

Cook it:

  1. In a large skillet, thoroughly cook ground beef.
  2. Add taco seasoning and stir.
  3. Cook quinoa according to package.
  4. Chop veggies and wash cilantro.
  5. Add all to individual bowls and serve warm.

Our most sincere prayer, is that this new year brings health & joy to your family and home.

“But I will restore you to health and heal your wounds,’ declares the Lord,”
‭‭Jeremiah‬ ‭30:17‬ ‭NIV‬‬
