If you are on Instagram, you may know that the new trend is to completely deck out your home for Christmas by November 1. If that’s not you, that is completely normal. Christmas will not be ruined. Your children will not be deprived if they are not experiencing Christmas for 55 days straight.
Don’t get me wrong, I love decorating for the holidays. However, I’ve learned that it isn’t enjoyable while in a rush, or with the intention to meet the high standards of Instagram and Pinterest.
Here’s the thing: there is no right answer to when or how you should decorate. I like to spread out these festivities throughout November and December when I am in the Christmas spirit and have moments to enjoy doing it.?
Joy is my favorite word of the season. Rather than working hard to make this holiday perfect, remember to be present. Enjoy it. Appreciate the busy season as much as you can…it goes by so fast. ❤️
Over the next several weeks, we will be sharing tips on how to decorate for the holidays.
Tip 1. How to Decorate Your Porch for Christmas
1. Select Your Greens
I always start with decorating the front porch. Luckily, I have a wonderful mother-in-law who is talented at designing planters and window boxes. Over the years, I’ve suggested greens that I love, and she always includes them in a perfect bounty.
Here’s what we use:
- Spruce tips
- Norway pine
- Douglas fir
- Seeded eucalyptus
- Juniper (has blueberries)
- Boxwood
- Noble fir
- Cedar boughs
- Holly
- Red dogwood branches
- Birch

2. Plan to add coziness and warmth
I love to make the porch feel cozy with pillows & throws on our rockers, a bin full of wood, lanterns, textured rugs and warm, white lights ✨ We also hang a wreath on every window & place battery-operated candles on each sill.
3. Decorate!
If you haven’t heard, we recently curated an Amazon shop! What does that mean? FREE interior styling, courtesy of Beautiful Chaos™ ? You can check out our favorite items of the season through the links below. Have fun!
Holiday Porch Decorating Ideas:
When guests stop in during the holiday season, your front porch should say, “Come on in…its warm in here.” But remember, memorable moments should take precedence over a perfect home. ❤️
