Beauty in the Chaos, Tracy Karwoski, Tracy Jean Photography

Sarah Martin has been an entrepreneur for over a decade. In light of this, each month we speak with exceptional women entrepreneurs in the Twin Cities Metropolitan area. What are they passionate about? What drives them to be successful? What tips can they give us to start our own businesses? Each Beauty in the Chaos feature takes a look at behind the scenes of each of these gals’ lives.

This month, we interviewed Tracy Karwoski, owner of Tracy Jean Photography, where she specializes in wedding, engagement, newborn and family photography. Tracy decided to start her own photography business six years ago, and her work is stunning!

In fact, Tracy had popped by our Beautiful Chaos Farmhouse Tour last September, where she took this gorgeous pic:

We’re so excited to get a chance to speak with her and hear her story. Read below! ?

Why did you choose a career in photography?

I grew up loving taking and looking at photos and a couple years after college I decided to invest in a camera….it started with a friend wanting me to take their christmas card photo, to another friend wanting family photos to someone else’s wedding. It all naturally developed because of social media with hours spent behind the scenes reading everything about photography!

We love that! Do you have a favorite type of photography to shoot?

I love photographing and snuggling newborns, they are so sweet….lifestyle sessions have become my favorite! Being so detail oriented I love documenting a wedding….knowing I photographed a memory that will be looked at for years to come is very fulfilling as a photographer. Filling in with family sessions in-between!

How do you stay creative in your field?

I like to stay creative by using different locations to photograph at….inspires me in different ways for posing and how my clients naturally interact with each other.

What’s something someone might not know about you?

I always say if I wanted to be adventurous for a career I would be a shark researcher or a tornado chaser! I’ll stick to photography! 🙂

What’s the best piece of advice you could give someone looking to open their own business?

My best advice would be to do your research and run your business legally with your state. There are so many blogs and resources online to help navigate every aspect of a business. Webinars have been very knowledgeable as well! Then find your brand and stick to it! There are a lot of trends of how we “should” present ourselves on social media….I believe in being authentic to yourself!
